The Journey
The Origin Insight:
His master's research revealed something most educators miss: most "learning deficits" aren't deficits at all—they're missed building blocks. That insight became his universal methodology for turning struggling students into self-regulated learners.
Phase 1: Undergraduate Support
6 years supporting students in improving their learning skills — whether navigating the transition into college or realizing later that they needed a better system. Worked with students across backgrounds, including first-generation, students with disabilities, and underrepresented groups. Built systems for study skills, time management, and self-advocacy.
Phase 2: Medical Education
7 years in academic medicine — where the pressure is high and the margin for error is slim. Supported medical students through board exams, clinical rotations, and the psychological demands of becoming physicians.
After thousands of one-on-one sessions, patterns emerged. The students who broke through weren't the ones who studied more—they were the ones who studied smarter. They built systems. They tracked data. They treated learning as a skill that could always be improved.
